Introduction
Hello, I am Takira Jackson! I am a English Licensed Associate Counselor with 3 years of experience providing expressive arts therapy to clients in need.
I received Master of Arts in Counseling with a specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy from Ottawa University. Expressive Arts Therapy combines psychology and the creative process to promote growth and healing. It is the practice of using imagery, dance, storytelling, writing, music, drama, poetry, movement, craft, and visual arts together, in an integrated way, to heal and explore the self and also foster human growth and development. It can be used for all age groups, individually as well as in groups.
I've worked in many different clinical settings and have experience leading clients through creative interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorder, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, gender identity as an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community, family communication, grief & life transitions, parenting, and skill-building. I maintain therapeutic growth by exhibiting genuineness, empathetic understanding and unconditional positive regard while advocating for multicultural competency. I believe that through creative expression and the tapping of the imagination, anyone can examine the body, feelings, emotions and his or her thought process. I am committed to helping others meet their basic needs to reach self-actualization by incorporating motivation and a strengths-based approach. My primary objective is to promote healing through the innate desire to create and to help maintain this skill throughout life.
I am a creative problem-solver. You can count on my empathetic and person-centered approach towards every conversation we take part on. Thank you for taking the first step and for allowing me to be part of this very important journey.
