Ghulam Waris

I was always a helpful young fellow at home and when I was 7 years old my dad who was a successful businessman said at the dinner table that I want you to help people and become a doctor. That day on I was on a journey to serve. He named me Ghulam which means " one who serves" . I went to Dominican Republic at age 18 and studied Medicine there then returned to US for my post graduate training. After finishing my residency at Seton Hall University Program B at Jersey City Medical Center I worked as a house officer at Lyons V.A hospital for a year before joining Urban Health Center in Bronx, N.Y as a Primary care Physician. I worked in adult medicine, MRDD clinic and HIV/AIDS clinic for few years helping my patients in the heart of Bronx. I was hired as a Medical Director for State of Illinois at Shapiro Developmental Center at Kankakee Illinois with a patient population of 720 residents due to my passion and interest to provide the best medical care for the most vulnerable and underserved population with mental and intellectual disabilities. I transferred to Holly Center in Salisbury Maryland after 4 years who needed my services to improve the medical care. As always in my free time on weekends and evenings I also helped nursing home residents at Deer's Head hospital center, Lower Shore Mental Health clinic and Hudson Health Rehab and addiction center. I started working with Coastal Hospice and Palliative Care and Tidal Health Center in 2007 to help the patients during their journey at the end of life. Most recently I have been helping patient in need with no insurance through Telehealth in evenings and weekends on my free time since the Pandemic. I have not forgotten my dad's message that helping humanity is the main purpose of one's life irrespective of their socioeconomic status, race, religion or sexual orientation. I am fluent in English, Spanish, Hini and Urdu languages. On my few free hours I also enjoy reading, cooking and watching soccer.
